Writing Prompts About Social Media Free Instant Download

Writing Prompts About Social Media Free Instant Download PDF

for Teachers and Writing Groups

It is the 15th of the month again, now June 2022. See the full list of previous downloads below.
This month the theme is social media. Love it, hate it, or neutral, there is no escaping it. Avoid it or spend time on it, opinions abound. How do you feel about it? These writing prompts have text with them for the first six, and then no text just images for the rest. There is one coloring page for any children who may have to endure a writing class.

Some of the images will appeal to some writers. Take some time to look over the images and then think of possible writing pieces,. When inspired, take one and begin. These writings may be quick warm-ups, for fast-finshers for teachers, or perhaps will develop as full stories.

Most social media has an app. When apps first came out, how did you feel about them? Yay or nay? Did your thinking change? I never thought I would end up with so many apps on my phone that my daughter would be surprised. What is your favorite?

Ah, love. Love by messages and texting and emojis. Who would have ever thought? How do you feel about such relationships? Have you or would you use social media in this way?

Emojis! Fun or not? Which ones do you use? Which ones do you like? Why did these become popular? Why are there more and more and more and more emojis? Do they convey feelings well?

Has this happened to you, or do you observe this - people gather but most are on their phones? Do you think they are investing with Morgan Stanley as they claim in the commercials? If everyone is looking at a phone, do you also look at yours? Sometimes this is appropriate, like when in a doctors office which is basically not a social situation. Sometimes it is a social situation, yet people do not warm up right away and it may just be to avoid looking awakward. Does it ever seem appropriate or odd?

It is true that talking to people around the world, family when traveling, and keeping in touch with those who have moved away is easier by technology. Much easier. Remember long distance calls back in the day, or even when iPhones first came out and minutes were part of the bill? Is this something you like? Or do people contact you too easily?

I have a 96 year old friend who is tech savvy. She uses Zoom to take classes and talk to people. She is still writing books and can easily send the manuscripts to others for proof-reading. She uses instant messenger. Amazing how it helps her cope with living in a care home! Do you know anyone who might use technology to help stay connected to others that would otherwise probably not be possible?

What might this son be texting to his father? There is an old joke. The son writes from college, Dear Dad, no mon, no fun, your Son. The father answers, Dear Son, too bad, so sad, your Dad. What might a conversation be like today?

Some people take photos of everything they do. Annoying or intersting? Many times the photo captures something that looks nice, but around the rest of the scene there is a mess. Photos can give an illusion of having everything all together when it is not really so. What do you think?

School in the times of Covid. Do you have a story about trying to learn online, or hearing about others trying to do so?

And, finally, the selfie. What do you like or dislike about selfies? or group selfies, usies?

Thank you for reading.
Happy writing!

The Power of Amazon--Good or Bad--and Social Media Pages on Web Sites

It wasn't too long ago that I noticed the difference in activity on Goodreads. It was the day that Amazon.com took the reins of that site. My e-mail box was flooded with invitations to be a Goodreads friend.

This, of course, speaks to the power of Amazon. Or influence. Call it what you will. I call it algorithms—though that’s only part of how Amazon affects the publishing industry including their search engine capabilities.

Amazon was a giant to be reckoned with before they took on Goodreads, of course. They started as an online bookseller, created Kindle e-reader, moved into book publishing and contests to give them an advantage in finding great content for their publishing, and now they’re on their way to dominating (if they haven’t already), the social networking of readers, authors, and publishers.

Though a member of Goodreads (and Safari and Library Thing), I admit that I’ve not been active and know little about how to mine their benefits. I can see that has to change. I encourage subscribers to this blog to submit articles (yes, I give ample credits complete with buylinks to their books!) to me to publish in my newsletter (http://howtodoitfrugally.com)  or on this blog (http://SharingwithWriters.blogspot.com) . Or send me tips for your favorite way to utilize Goodreads’ power. We’re all in this together.

In the meantime, I urge you all to include a social network on your Web site page. Few authors have one. It is less important now that we have the little logos to encourage people to click, follow, join, like, etc. But those—really—are the bare bones. The media, agents, publishers and more want to know where to find your social networks and how your relate to them.

If you need to see how to set a social media page lup, find mine at http://howtodoitfrugally.com/social_media.htm and here is my Goodreads URL (sad as the pages now appear!) http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/408377.Carolyn_Howard_Johnson.
In other words, let me help you with some things, but don’t follow my Goodreads example unless you take from it the idea that no one of us can be everywhere doing everything for our books. Sometimes we have to make choices.

Top 3 Things You Need to Sell a Ton of Books

I sometimes select one of my fave tips from my SharingwithWriters newsletter to share with you--subscribers and visitors of this SharingwithWriters blog. I just returned from a trip and thought this would be the time to drop one in because I don't want you to think I forgot you:

Tip:  What are the top three things you need to work on to sell a ton of books?

·        Killer contact lists you build using your own research and the people you know.

·        A query letter template that can be adapted to sell everything from your book (to agents or publishers) to your ideas for publicity.

·        A social media platform you can call on—preferably on the day your book is released.

So, now you know. If you don't think your skills are what they should be on any one of these, please I promise you you'll find detailed instructions on how to do all three in the most frugal and time-saving way in my The Frugal Book Promoter.

And if you want all my tips (resources, writing tips, tech tips and even what's in the news for the publishing industry), please sign up for the newsletter and get your free little wordtrippers e-booklet at http://howotoditfrugally.com. The subscription form is in the upper right corner of most every page.
