Writing Prompts Theme Women Freebie for Teachers and Writing Groups
Reading two poetry chapbooks about the lives of women, I was inspired to create a free download with six writing prompts with text, six with images only, and then a coloring page for children who may be forced to endure sitting through a writing group or class.

“My Closet as Psychological Profile” was written by Carolyn Howard-Johnson (author of this and other blogs).
Do closets of you or anyone you know offer an idea for a writing piece? If you have Howard-Johnson's chapbook, reading the poem may give further ideas for consideration. Maybe the entire writing group could take photos of their closets . . . or, maybe not! This prompt has the quote from the poem on one page, and just the picture of the closet on another. Some people like the text to think about, and some like images only. Hang in there, you will think of something to write with one of these prompts.
“In this limited space stragglers from the fifties and every decade since hang there, designer and second-hand-rose finds.”

Perhaps your family has a tea set, silverware, dishes, candle holders, or other table service items that have seen several wars, divorces, illnesses, and so on to end up being passed around to different households. What would these pieces say if they could talk? In Vikram's chapbook, she has a poem about such a tea set, silver no less, that could inspire another writer.
“Through countless arguments, three generations, sixty-five years of marriage, and travel across four continents, the eternal, silver tea-set stood in my face.”

Because the quotes and sources are provided in the PDF download, I won't be listing them again but giving the general idea for prompts. For instance, one of Vikram's poems is about bad things that begin with the letter D such as Dracula and a short list of other words. However, diamonds also begins with the same letter. Everything is relative. Is there a letter in your life that causes you some distress? Sometimes teachers say there is a letter they refused to use in their own child's name as some misbehaving children whose names begin with the letter have caused havoc in class at one time or another. Perhaps you might write your own, similar but different, poem.
