It's in the Cards Writing Prompt Free PDF Download

For February 15, 2023, we have writing prompts revolving around the theme of cards. Each of the six prompts has a text and also a picture-only writing page. A generic writing page is included for those with their own ideas. Of course, coloring pages are included in the case of younger visitors to the writing group or class. 

We have all heard of someone with something up a sleeve, so this prompt might be about an actual card or just an idea that someone springs on unsuspecting people. What do you think of when you see this picture? There are many ways to play tricks. This saying might mean to have secret plans or ideas. Some group members might select this page for their quick write, while others will look further.

The word card might have another meaning, such as a credit card. Money pockets went out long ago for most people, but someone might still wear such a thing. What could possibly go wrong? 

Few among us haven't heard the expression, "It's just a game." Some writers might be inspired by this saying to begin writing. 

There has even been a TV show entitled, "House of Cards." This image may help a few writers be inspired.

Movie Review Writing Prompts PDF for Writing Groups and Teachers

Movie reviews might be good writing practice for either groups or classrooms, whether or not they are actually posted. Maybe extra credit if it is posted? It is always helpful when people tell what they liked and cover one critical point for other potential film viewers. This free PDF is open-ended so writers may select a film or just the genre to review. Writers may add specific titles or a genre, then assign a star value. Writing responses might be timed or not, and shared or not.

What made me think of this idea? Oh, we received such sad news about a friend's daughter who has been fighting cancer for a long time and is spending her days in bed. She watches movies part of each day and even continues to write movie reviews. Being taken care of well, it is good she has such a hobby to occupy her time. I'm sure others may have similar hobbies, but this story today hit especially hard during the holiday season. I wish everyone was well, happy, and secure in housing/food/health. But of course, that is not probably true. It sure would be nice. 

Science Fiction readers might enjoy using this page, either to write about a specific title or just the genre. Tell us what you really think!

Watching Hallmark movies in December? The guy from the city is old news when the charming small-town guy in a flannel shirt is helping everyone and is ever so romantic. Think of a certain film or write about romance movies in general. How many stars?

Some people like horror or scary movies. If so, this picture prompt might be just the thing to get the creative juices flowing. 

Do you know of a just really good movie that you can't stop thinking about? So enjoyable and captivating? This page might be used for such a title. 

Travel or nights out on the town type films might be rated with this page. 

Well, sometimes we all wait patiently through a show another person likes. Has this happened to you? This page might be a good one for writing about such events. 

Documentaries are good for people who want to relive history or have some understanding of the topic before watching. Some people prefer nonfiction, are you one?

Ghost story films can be in a different category than horror as they may encompass the supernatural. People probably have definite opinions on this category. 

Any old plain movie review for people not inspired by the other pages might be used to pen thoughts before posting online. 

And, as always, a coloring page for any children who may have to attend a writing group or session.

On summer evenings there is so much to enjoy. Just think of all the activities we are able to do during the summer's longer days and more outdoor events. This month, there are six picture prompts for those who like a little text start, and then six picture only writing pages. One coloring page for any children who may be in attendance is included, as well. 

Summer evenings are a worthy topic for writing prompts, and even entire books. 

The third super moon was a special event for many people, and there will even be a fourth one this year. If you are one of those who enjoy watching , this prompt without without the text might inspire you. It is also called the Buck Moon. 

"Supermoons appear about 30% brighter and 14% larger than the dimmest, farthest moon because of a combination of the moon's proximity to Earth and reflection of light."

Look up! A supermoon is illuminating the skies this week

The James Webb Telescope was a huge event in the sky. I watched the NOVA episode and was really impressed with the many years dedicated scientists gave to the project. Have you seen some of the images? This one is not from NASA but might give an idea of something to write about. See some of the first images on a NASA page at this link.  See the Holderness Family video "I think my brain is breaking" Tic Tok  for an explanation of the images and some fun. 

Fire! Fires! Climate change. Well, I hope you don't have a personal story but in case some people do, it might be written for posterity. See the NASA video about fires on Earth for more thoughts:

Heatwaves and Fires Scorch Europe, Africa, and Asia

Splash pads are a wonderful new invention, in my opinion. Everyone can cool down, even families around the edge having a picnic or just watching their children splash. A win for everyone! Except there are pros and cons. Should the water be recirculated or not? What about kids in diapers? Another topic for a writing piece. 

The Milky Way is enjoyable if you can get out a ways from city lights. I hope you get to see it! What exactly is it? Read facts on this web page. 

State Fairs and amusement parks are other summer events that may prompt story memories. Which is more dangerous? Which is better value? An amusement park is a park that features attractions, such as rides and games. A theme park is a type of amusement park with a central theme. Do you prefer one over the other? Compare and contrast different fairs and parks, or write about your favorite.

It is the 15th of the month again, now June 2022. See the full list of previous downloads below. 

This month the theme is social media. Love it, hate it, or neutral, there is no escaping it. Avoid it or spend time on it, opinions abound. How do you feel about it? These writing prompts have text with them for the first six, and then no text just images for the rest. There is one coloring page for any children who may have to endure a writing class.

Some of the images will appeal to some writers. Take some time to look over the images and then think of possible writing pieces,. When inspired, take one and begin. These writings may be quick warm-ups, for fast-finshers for teachers, or perhaps will develop as full stories. 

Most social media has an app. When apps first came out, how did you feel about them? Yay or nay? Did your thinking change? I never thought I would end up with so many apps on my phone that my daughter would be surprised. What is your favorite?

Ah, love. Love by messages and texting and emojis. Who would have ever thought? How do you feel about such relationships? Have you or would you use social media in this way? 

Emojis! Fun or not? Which ones do you use? Which ones do you like? Why did these become popular? Why are there more and more and more and more emojis? Do they convey feelings well? 

Has this happened to you, or do you observe this - people gather but most are on their phones? Do you think they are investing with Morgan Stanley as they claim in the commercials? If everyone is looking at a phone, do you also look at yours? Sometimes this is appropriate, like when in a doctors office which is basically not a social situation. Sometimes it is a social situation, yet people do not warm up right away and it may just be to avoid looking awakward. Does it ever seem appropriate or odd? 

It is true that talking to people around the world, family when traveling, and keeping in touch with those who have moved away is easier by technology. Much easier. Remember long distance calls back in the day, or even when iPhones first came out and minutes were part of the bill? Is this something you like? Or do people contact you too easily? 

I have a 96 year old friend who is tech savvy. She uses Zoom to take classes and talk to people. She is still writing books and can easily send the manuscripts to others for proof-reading. She uses instant messenger. Amazing how it helps her cope with living in a care home! Do you know anyone who might use technology to help stay connected to others that would otherwise probably not be possible? 

What might this son be texting to his father? There is an old joke. The son writes from college, Dear Dad, no mon, no fun, your Son. The father answers, Dear Son, too bad, so sad, your Dad. What might a conversation be like today? 

Some people take photos of everything they do. Annoying or intersting? Many times the photo captures something that looks nice, but around the rest of the scene there is a mess. Photos can give an illusion of having everything all together when it is not really so. What do you think?

School in the times of Covid. Do you have a story about trying to learn online, or hearing about others trying to do so? 

And, finally, the selfie. What do you like or dislike about selfies? or group selfies, usies?

Music Picture Writing Prompts for November 15, 2021 Freebie

Most people enjoy listening to music and also have experienced classes, lessons, concerts, and parades. Maybe you even have a rock star practicing in your basement or garage! This month I have picture prompts only for writing groups who might have a writing warm-up or closing time. Perhaps your group shares what is written in the space of about 20 minutes that day, or return with finished pieces. Whatever plan your group or class follows, this is another free printable.

Perhaps you have taken piano or other music lessons and have some memories that would make a quick write or story. 

Some might select this jazz image as there might be a story on this topic that could be shared. 

Oh, I remember some teens who saw musicians who would collect donations in an outdoor space and thought that was so cool. This picture might inspire a few writers. 

Marching band memories, anyone? For a family member or child? Some bands travel and have fun memories which could be recorded. 

Maybe there is no actual gramophone but remember the sound of this music in movies? Remember a movie and a possible story from attending the movie theater?

Small, neighborhood music stores have largely disappeared. Anyone remember buying sheet music or single record hits? This picture may spark an idea for a few writers. 

Concerts! A first concert, a special concert, a recent concert or others might be a topic for a writing piece. 

Ever been to the opera? If so, that might be a great topic to write about.
