It's in the Cards Writing Prompt Free PDF Download

For February 15, 2023, we have writing prompts revolving around the theme of cards. Each of the six prompts has a text and also a picture-only writing page. A generic writing page is included for those with their own ideas. Of course, coloring pages are included in the case of younger visitors to the writing group or class. 

We have all heard of someone with something up a sleeve, so this prompt might be about an actual card or just an idea that someone springs on unsuspecting people. What do you think of when you see this picture? There are many ways to play tricks. This saying might mean to have secret plans or ideas. Some group members might select this page for their quick write, while others will look further.

The word card might have another meaning, such as a credit card. Money pockets went out long ago for most people, but someone might still wear such a thing. What could possibly go wrong? 

Few among us haven't heard the expression, "It's just a game." Some writers might be inspired by this saying to begin writing. 

There has even been a TV show entitled, "House of Cards." This image may help a few writers be inspired.

Writing Prompts of the Month for Publishing Book Reviews

Our sister site is The New Book Review, and did you know we welcome book reviews by our readers? We do, even for previously published reviews with permission, unless you wrote it yourself. So this month, we are inviting you to submit to our blog and see your book review online. 

The free PDF download would be useful for writing practice for groups or classes that may wish to see their work online. Of course, reviewers need to be over 13 years old in most cases. 

Instead of writing a book report, groups might work on writing reviews for publication on sites such as The New Book Book Review, Amazon, Goodreads, Barnes & Noble, Public Libraries, or other sites that accept book reviews.  The free instant download PDF is at this link.  For those who prefer editable forms to fill in and then email to The New Book Review, please use this editable submission form. 

The form for submitting to The New Book Review to be published on our site is two pages and is the same as what is asked on the site page explaining the process.  Page one asks for the book title, subtitle, author name, and so on. This is an image of the first page. 

 

The second page asks for more information so we can publish a full book review including information about the reviewer as well as the author, and where the book may be published. 

There is also a general review that may be used on other sites. Make several copies of the page if writers would like to use this one. Group leaders have the option of which pages to use and how many copies to make of the pages, of course.

Camping Writing Prompts Free PDF Instant Download August 2021

Camping! Did you camp? I certainly went camping often as Minnesota is full of lovely state parks. When I was growing up the rule was if we camped two nights, and the third night we could go to a motel with a pool. We visited many states. I also went to camps. It used to be camp meant outside in nature with outhouses, but things have changed. My daughter went to "cheerleader camp" by staying in a dorm at the University of Minnesota. Concrete camp! I never liked day camp much and thought overnight camp was much nicer. What do you remember about camping? Or did your family camp in hotels! Some people do not care for tent camping. Maybe you have an RV or vehicle in which there is room to sleep? At any rate, I hope many people have some memories or creative writing ideas for this theme.

Did you ever camp in winter? I never choose to do that, myself. But some people think it is fun. Bob Fisher of Wayzata, MN, holds a winter camping event to raise money and awareness for the homeless. A recurring quote after such a night is that people are glad it is over. Of course, for the homeless, that is not true. Whatever your memory, this picture might inspire a writing piece. 

There are those who travel to get away from the lights of a city and view the stars. Whatever travel or arrangements you might have made to view stars without light pollution, this image may inspire some writing thoughts. Carl Sagan says we are made of stars. 

Have you ever seen the Northern Lights? It is an amazing experience. We could see them when we lived in Grand Marais, Minnesota. An app would call our phone. Many times we were too tired to get up and look as we lived on a side of Sawtooth Mountains (only in MN is a mountain a mere 2300 feet high). Eagle Mountain is the highest natural point in Minnesota, United States, at 2,301 feet. Don't laugh though, MN also has the highest latitude in the contiguous USA. Brr! Northern lights are visible in many other places, as well. 

Do you kayak or canoe? If so you may have been able to get very close to some natural wonders which would be interesting to write about! 

Bonfires and campfires offer special experiences for roasting marshmallows and singing. Perhaps you have a  special memory of such an experience. 

There are six picture/text writing prompts as well as 8 picture-only prompts in this PDF. One coloring page for children is included, as well, if little ones have to sit through the writers' group meeting.
