At the suggestion of an Aussie friend of mine, Dr. Bob Rich, I am sharing this poem with my visitors and subscribers. Regulars will know that, as a writer and poet myself, I believe in free press, free speech, and all things related. It should be evident that if we all learned a little bit more about acceptance of debate, discussion, and the skills needed to foster it would be a valuable approach to fostering those things. It is one of the beauties of being a writer that gives us access to helping others, maybe inspire them, along paths the point to living better lives. ~ Your blogger, Carolyn Howard-Johnson
Aquarian Rant
A poem by Laurie Corzett
Published with permission of the poet.
OK, we all split into our
supposed safe places, self-affirming
speak against fears of alienation,
attack — valid fears.
Yet, here, we find not safety,
but ever more alienation, attacking,
sniping and escalating out from
each supposed safe zone
into the cold, dark THEM.
When will it truly, deeply,
existentially, occur to us
it’s time to release these bindings,
to become a people bound together
by our common, human needs, hopes,
curiosities, joys?
Trends are saying more and more
of us are dying of loneliness
within this great ocean of possible
companions, friends, loves
we have become too encapsulated
to see.
