Wanna Be a Star on Oscar Night?

This tip for book promotion is from my Sharing with Writers newsletter. Those of you who subscribe to this blog are--in a way--SWW subscribers, too, so I wanted you to know about it. I think it's a really fun opportunity. To subscribe to the e-mail newsletter, send me an e-post with SUBSCRIBE in the subject line to hojonews@aol.com. To subscribe to this blog, see the subscribe window in the left column on this page.

Many of us writers have inspirational stories to tell--so many we can hardly keep up with putting them on paper. After all, being a writer isn't easy. It takes a certain amount of talent and a whole lot of stick-to-itiveness. But what about our own stories? I bet yours can be an inspiration to others.

Wouldn't it be fun to tell our kids or grandkids or friends one more? To be able to say, "In 2009 I was featured on the Oscars!" This letter is short because of Thanksgiving weekend, so I'm even making my note to you a tip. Go to http://www.truenorthsnacks.com/story/. Tell them your story. Those of you who have read The Frugal Book Promoter know that book promotion is about publicizing more than just your book!

So, enter and compete with me. And if you win, I'll expect a bottle of champagne at my door as an apology for beating me at this game.

  1. Great advice, Carolyn!

Speaking of storytelling, StoryCorps has declared today the first National Day of Listening, a day to ask the people around us--our grandparents, our teachers, our neighbors--about their lives. "By listening to their stories, you will be telling them that they matter and they will never be forgotten. It may be the most meaningful time you spend this year. . . . ." (From the StoryCorps website.)

Go to www.nationaldayoflistening.org for more details about how to participate.
