At least not unlessy you plan to set aside a good amount of time in any given weeks doing the promotion, following up on book sales to see if the stores need/want to reorder, etc. Generally speaking I think your time can be better spent in most cases. An Indie author who does a wonderful job of this kind of promotion is Janet Elaine Smith. She sets aside at least an hour every day for this and has been building one her contacts for years. So it can be done. Just know that you have to contend with unpaid invoices, book returns galore and few sales for the amount of time your investing--at least at first. This kind of promotion just works so much better where you have contacts and influence. The thing is you can build those in any aspect of promotion you choose; the trick is in finding the promotion that works best for you and your title.

Best,

CarolynCarolyn Howard-Johnsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15041591136206289558noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14401984.post-72025727139347100442009-07-04T05:02:53.781-07:002009-07-04T05:02:53.781-07:00How about promoting oneself to stores who are NOT ...How about promoting oneself to stores who are NOT in one's area -- how viable is that?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14401984.post-37410246405253546662009-06-16T20:17:59.374-07:002009-06-16T20:17:59.374-07:00I love this article! This will open many new doors to indie authors as the bookstores are forced to look for ways to replace dwindling revenue. Your math is sound, Carolyn. It's only a matter of time before bookstores see profit from it and it garners larger and larger adoption.Tony Eldridgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09470843635257926070noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14401984.post-40547841855987594432009-06-15T13:19:16.654-07:002009-06-15T13:19:16.654-07:00Hi Carolyn:
