She's got her stuff together and I've packed mine away and forgot where I put it.

As far as video trailers...whether they work or not, to me they are another way to tell a story. I'm addicted to making them, but I keep them short and sweet. I cannot stand ones that exceed two minutes. Trailers should be like the teaser on the book cover...enough to entice you and not bore you to death. If you wanted to read the whole book, you'd buy it. *lol*
As a matter of fact, I've just launched my own side-business, Trailmix Videos. I'm doing them for my tech-challenged friends or those who just don't have the time or patience. So far, business is good. :)

Ginger
http://mizging.blogspot.comAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09683064637626718318noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14401984.post-90580592763367156072007-11-06T09:56:00.000-08:002007-11-06T09:56:00.000-08:00Steven,27,000 is HUGE and I think proves that vide...Steven,

27,000 is HUGE and I think proves that videos can work. Of course, they're news. They may lose some steam because of the novelty but they won't go away. Also, you seem to understand how important it is to have a video slanted to its audience, with the slant pointing to the author and his or her book. Many aren't catching this, I fear.

Watch Sharing with Writers blog for a new video/TV service, btw. And thank you for the compliment. I enjoy sharing about anything writing. ANYTHING. Ha!

Best, Carolyn

BTW, another place all of you can find information like this is in my newsletter, Sharing with Writers. Just e-mail me wih "subscribe" in the subject line. I saw Anita's site and it is so uplifting and in reality she is speaking to her books, because that is her style of writing too, so her videos reflect that. She is right that we need to give the viewer a reason to buy our stuff, but I think videos are what people relate to now, youtube proved that. I have 8 videos that I tried to create showing different parts of my book. They have been seen by over 27,000 people, last time I tabulated it. So, that's a good start for the past two months since I loaded them. I think this sharing is so excellent since every author is so creative and it stirs my imagination. You were very good at promoting your books Carolyne and I can learn from you!
Steven Clark BradleyUnderground Controversyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06260848331623708807noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14401984.post-6841728121090393682007-11-05T23:01:00.000-08:002007-11-05T23:01:00.000-08:00Hi Carolyn,I think your blog is excellent and your...Hi Carolyn,

I think your blog is excellent and your advice was very practical for me. I've done my video reviews for Amazon on the fly with a small video recorder and no clue about what to include. Consequently, my videos could use lots of improvement and maybe...probably...are cringe-worthy, although my ego still desperately hopes not!

Blessings, OliviaOliviahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06058356843151306428noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14401984.post-20061333972169487242007-11-05T14:58:00.000-08:002007-11-05T14:58:00.000-08:00For those who are not very savvy with a video porg...For those who are not very savvy with a video porgam, but would like a quality video, you could use the free trial at http://www.realestateshows.com. I've watched a few that are truly cringe worthy and these have been professionally produced. Please! I did a test video using Windows Movie Maker which was every bit as good and I'd never used the programme before.

If trailers are the new book covers then a bit more thought needs to go into these.

Like your site in general BTW - I've added you to my feeds list.Jim Murdochhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12786388638146471193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14401984.post-60008603120288248732007-11-05T00:43:00.000-08:002007-11-05T00:43:00.000-08:00while I love the idea of making a book promo video...while I love the idea of making a book promo video, rarely have I seen a "good" one -- ie, one that is entertaining and leaves the viewer with the feeling that they've learned something. Most videos I've seen are blatantly book-centric without consideration for the WIIFM factor for the viewer. (WIIFM: What's In It For Me?)

Can anyone point me to a book trailer that has addressed the WIIFM factor?

Myself, I preferred to make a video that was not about the book, but made the viewer feel good. When the viewer feels good they're more likely to want to investigate further and look at my site. From my site I then link to my book on Amazon. Yet, sometimes I've felt that it's like the gold rush. Very few folks who came out West to California made it rich mining a claim. Most of the money made was in feeding and supporting the presence of the miners. We need to have common sense and a good marketing plan to make it all work for us.

Janet Riehl
www.riehlife.comJanet Grace Riehlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03921731725804450430noreply@blogger.com
